The name of my mission is San Luis Rey De Francia. San Luis Rey De Francia is located north of San Deigo. San Luis Rey De Francia was founded on June 13, 1798 by Father Fermin Lasuen. They thought the mission had a good site because there were a lot of Indians there.

The name of the tribe that lived near San Luis Rey De Francia was the Luiseno Indians. They also lived near the Gabrielino tribe. Their region was the Southern Coast of California. They lived like any other coast California Indian tribe. Before they lived in the mission the men would do the hunting while their wives watched the children and prepared the food. The Luiseno Indians believed in a religon called Chungiehnish.

The Luiseno Indians did the farming, weaving, leather making, and the cooking at the mission. The Padres did the farming and they taught the Indians how to speak Spanish and about Christianity. The Luiseno Indians couldn't go and stay with their tribe after joining the mission life.

By 1834, the mission was controlled by the Mexican government. Now today tourists visit the mission and the museum and the docents are showing the history of the mission. The Catholic Church is having masses at the church.
