The name of my mission is Mission San Antonio De Padua. It is located south of Monterey in the valley of the Luicia Mountains. This mission was founded on July 14, 1771 by Father Junipero Serra. Some interesting facts about my mission is in 1773 the mission was moved north of the Valley of Robles because of a water problem. Also, Mission San Antonio is famous for its flourmill and the grinder that is still standing today.

The California Indians that were closest to the mission was the tribe of the Salinan. The Salinan lived towards the coast. The Salinan lived in thatched houses with the whole family. Their life style before coming to the mission was helping each other with food and their homes. They ate many things like plants, fish, and small game.

Some of the daily life at the mission was the Indians learned Spanish and Christianity, they built the church, their homes, and gathered the crops. The padres watched the Indians and helped with the farming. If the Indians did something wrong they would be punished.

Mission San Antonio was first taken over by the Mexican government in 1834. Then it was abandoned for fifty years. At the mission today there are 25,000 people that come to the mission for church and to admire the wonderful view. This is what Mission San Antonio went through.
