Room 31's Study of theMission San Buenaventura |
|
The name of the tribe at the mission was Chumash. The region of the tribe was the central coast. They lived in houses shaped like ovens. Some of their food were acorns, cherries, seeds, pinenuts, berries, deer, and fish. They were famous boat builders. At the mission the Indians work was whatever the padres said they had to do. At Mission San Buenaventura the padres taught the Indians about Christianity and how to speak Spanish. The mission was taken away by the Mexican government in 1834. Now they have it as a Church and a museum. They had to rebuild the mission a lot of times because it burned down. |
