My mission is Santa Barbara. Mission Santa Barbara was founded December 4, 1786. It was founded by Fermin Francisco Lasuen.

The Chumash Indians were close to Mission Santa Barbara. The Chumash lived on the central coast.They used to pick berries and build boats. They were the finest boat builders in all of California.

At the mission they worked in the fields and the boys sang songs. The padres watched over the Indians and what they did. At the mission they had trouble because sometimes the Chumash wanted to leave and they couldn`t. Sometimes this turned into violence. Some of the Indians died of diseases from the Spanish.

In 1812 Mission Santa Barbara was rebuilt. In1834 the Mexican Government had taken over all the missions. Today tourists take pictures of the Indian artifacts at the mission.
