エキスポランド

Expoland -- Just outside of Osaka city, a kind of Great America theme park that was built on the site of an old exposition site to celebrate Japan’s economy in the ’80’s. The entire first year student class took a trip here.

This is a big statue that was built in the ‘80’s to celebrate Japan’s economy.

( P.S. at the time of this picture is was not attacking the city )

Kobe Illuminaria

This is a great light / sound show that is well worth the visit. Basically each year around Christmas time the city of Kobe sets up this huge light ring that you can walk into. The light comes from huge bulbs so it is lit up quite brightly and an amazing site. Before you enter the ring (which is in a park) you walk down a city street that acts like a “hallway” of light. All the while church organ music plays over loud speakers. My friends from Kobo took me here and it was a great!

Unzen Hot Springs

My friends in Nagasaki took me to this great place. It is a natural spring place where the heat from an active volcano (Unzen) boils underground water and creates steam which seeps out through the cracks in the ground. The whole place has a weird sulfur smell from the heat, boiling surface water, and limestone.

This specific place is called Hell Springs, as there is a constant loud whistling sound made by the escaping steam, it is said to be the cries of those in hell.

This sign literately says, “Do Not Enter – It’s Dangerous in Hell”

Universal Studios Japan

The English department at my school went here on our yearly trip. In Japan it is common for departments in schools or companies to take small trips together.

We actually got on this using a fast pass thing, whew…..

I was more fooling around with some features on my camera for these last two shots, but this was the weirdest cowboy show in I have ever seen, this guy was American and he spoke English. His sidekick, a Japanese guy, only spoke Japanese, so he would ask something in English and the Japanese partner would answer in Japanese…weird.
